H₂-Projects of Common Interest (PCI)
OGE and its partners regularly participate successfully in the European PCI/PMI process, which promotes the development of cross-border energy infrastructure in accordance with the TEN-E Regulation.
Import corridors, through which hydrogen will be transported to Germany and fed into the hydrogen core network in the future, are a key prerequisite for the market ramp-up of the hydrogen economy and a secure energy supply. To diversify import routes, OGE is working with partners to develop import corridors in various European regions that are closely linked to the hydrogen core network. The development of a Europe-wide hydrogen infrastructure network enables efficient connections between production and consumption regions across Europe.
Projects with PCI/PMI status are of particular importance in this context. PCIs (Projects of Common Interest) are intended to close gaps in the European energy network infrastructure and are characterized by economic, social, and environmental benefits for at least two Member States. Infrastructure projects designated as PMIs (Projects of Mutual Interest) connect the Union’s energy networks with those of third countries. PCIs and PMIs are consolidated into a Union list, which is adopted every two years by the Commission as a delegated act. These projects are eligible to apply for funding from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program and can benefit from accelerated planning and permitting procedures.
