Questions and answers
What requirements must my son or daughter meet to start an apprenticeship at OGE?
They should be at least 16 years old, have a good school-leaving certificate and enjoy technical things, science or commercial activities. Depending on the profession, there may be other specific requirements, e.g. an affinity with technology.
How does OGE support my son or daughter during their apprenticeship?
Your son or daughter will receive customised support from experienced instructors and training officers throughout their apprenticeship. OGE also supports your son or daughter with various benefits, such as a Christmas bonus, meal and mobility allowances and their own iPad. Our modern technical facilities and regular seminars are designed to promote personal and professional development. Assignments in various departments and projects also help to deepen professional learning.
What qualifications do the instructors at OGE have?
Our instructors are highly qualified and have many years of practical experience as well as additional pedagogical training.
OGE has been awarded the “Best Place to Learn” seal of approval, which confirms that we offer outstanding training quality — from support provided and modern equipment to professional development. In the anonymous survey conducted for the seal, current and former apprentices rated the skills and expertise of the instructors in particular as “very good”. The seal shows that your son or daughter is in the best hands.
What happens after the apprenticeship?
OGE regularly takes on apprentices who impress with their performance. Those who achieve a final grade of “very good” are even offered a permanent employment contract. Together, we build a solid foundation for a career with Germany’s largest transmission system operator.
If your son or daughter is recruited after an apprenticeship at OGE, this opens many doors for them: We offer a wide range of opportunities for further training, e.g. through specialist courses, seminars or even a degree programme. Your son or daughter can make use of numerous learning formats on our own learning platform OGE Campus, either digitally or in person.
From apprentice to team leader — it’s possible at OGE! Depending on their interests, your child can later pursue a specialist technical or management career and work on exciting projects in the energy sector.
How secure is a job at OGE?
As the largest gas transmission system operator in Germany and one of the market leaders in Europe, OGE offers future prospects and job security. While we can look back on decades of experience in natural gas transportation, we are also expanding our business model by helping to shape the hydrogen core network in Germany and aiming to transport CO2 in the future. There’s still a whole lot to do to achieve the green transition — and for this we need outstanding specialists that we ideally train ourselves.
What can I do to support my child in applying for an apprenticeship?
Take a look at our apprenticeship programmes together with your son or daughter:
Visit our job market or register with us for a taster day (e.g. Girls’ Day). Of course, there’s also the option of completing an internship with us. This will allow you to get an idea of the world of work at OGE and clarify questions directly on site.
You can help your son or daughter with putting together their application and preparing for a job interview.
Together you can decide which of our apprenticeships best suits their strengths and interests.
What is the OGE Sailing Week?
The sailing week is a special highlight of any apprenticeship at OGE and comes right at the beginning: Our apprentices head to Glücksburg on the Baltic Sea to spend a whole week learning the importance of teamwork and good communication — and they do so onboard a sailing ship.
Together with other apprentices, they undergo intensive training before they take to the high seas for four days in the company of experienced instructors, training partners and a well-trained crew, tackling practical tasks and sailing together to gain a fresh perspective on teamwork and their own strengths — but also growing together with the team.
What role does diversity play at OGE?
OGE is a colourful place to work, and diversity is a central element of our corporate culture, including in training. We have signed the Diversity Charter, Germany’s largest employer initiative to promote diversity in the world of work. You can find out more about diversity at OGE here , as our employees themselves explain why they feel at home at OGE.
What is it like to train outside the head office (Essen)?
At our 14 training sites, our apprentices are actively involved in day-to-day operations and gain practical experience right from the start. They work closely with experienced instructors who provide them with professional guidance and support.
In addition to our in-house training, we teach individual training content as part of inter-company training. To do so, we work with selected companies and educational institutions that are highly regarded for vocational training within the respective regions. This helps us to ensure that our apprentices receive comprehensive, high-quality and practically oriented training.
