WAL I and II pipeline project

A project making energy history

The Wilhelmshaven Pipeline Link (WAL) has made German energy history. After only nine months of construction, OGE commissioned WAL I in 2022, connecting Germany's first ever LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven to the gas pipeline network.

WAL I pipeline project

WAL II pipeline project

The Wilhelmshaven pipeline link has made energy history in the Wilhelmshaven and Friesland region. OGE completed this project in a record time of nine months thanks to the exemplary support of its partners, local residents, authorities and policymakers.

The Wilhelmshaven pipeline link represents an important step towards reducing Germany’s dependence on Russian natural gas imports. It connects Germany's first LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven to the German natural gas transmission network.

In addition, the WAL has laid the foundation for a long-term and sustainable transformation of the energy system as the pipes installed in the ground are already suitable for transporting hydrogen.

WAL II followed in autumn 2023, connecting another FSRU to the German gas network.
