Project presentation and significance
The Lägerdorf-to-Brunsbüttel CO2 pipeline is a pioneering project that aims to transport carbon dioxide (CO2) in gaseous form from the cement factory in Lägerdorf to the Brunsbüttel site over a distance of some 28 kilometres. The CO2, which is unavoidable in cement production, is to be captured in Lägerdorf, temporarily stored in Brunsbüttel and transported from there, either for permanent storage or for utilisation as soon as the amendment to the Carbon Dioxide Storage and Transport Act (KSpTG) has been passed.
Event
The event took place at the Landsitzhotel und Seminarium Peterhof in Hodorf and began at 7.30 pm. After the welcome and introduction by Isabelle Wippich, OGE’s project press officer, project manager Martin Höhner and his team presented the project. There were almost 100 guests who asked many questions that resulted in very constructive discussions. Afterwards, there was the opportunity to talk directly to various OGE specialists at the ‘dialog market’.
Feedback and outlook
The feedback from visitors was overwhelmingly positive. Many praised the transparency and the opportunity to talk directly to those in charge. However, there was also a desire for ongoing communication in order to build trust.
We are happy to comply with this request and are in constant contact with landowners. Before the planning approval documents are submitted to the authorities, there will be further events to provide a project update.
The next steps include preliminary investigations to prepare the planning approval documents, which are to be submitted to the Schleswig-Holstein Energy Planning Approval Office next year. The CO2 pipeline is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2028.
